Chairman JR Robertson founded a similar business, Bright View Trading Company Ltd. (BVHK), in Hong Kong in 2007. BVHK started operations in a small 4,000-square-foot warehouse and office space in Wah Sing Centre, Chai Wan, on Hong Kong Island. The company's operations grew to a peak of 30,000 square feet and generated annual sales of close to HK$140 million (approximately €16 million) per annum. In 2023, BVHK was sold to an Italian-listed company.

Upon the expiration of his non-compete agreement, Chairman JR Robertson decided to start a new company, Best Food Depot, which is now headquartered in the same Wah Sing Centre building that previously housed BVHK. The majority of Best Food Depot's staff are former BVHK employees who chose to join the new venture, potentially due to the relocation of BVHK to the Tsing Yi Industrial Area, which may have resulted in a longer commute for many. Steed Yung, the General Manager, joined the venture, bringing 20 years of experience at Dah Chong Hong, a major Hong Kong-based food import/distributor and producer, where he focused on the company's food division.

In 2024, Chairman JR Robertson and Best Food Depot's Financial Director, Alessandro Erroi (a former BVHK director representing the ultimate BVHK purchaser), attended the Cibus food expo in Parma, Italy. This event allowed them to reconnect with former producers and suppliers and establish several new trade relationships with prominent Italian food companies. Best Food Depot's strategy is to focus on developing and promoting Italian food products, as well as select offerings from the United States and Australia, to expand and penetrate the Hong Kong market through a combination of high-quality products, excellent customer service, and competitive pricing. The company is committed to energetically meeting both existing and new customers, fostering long-lasting relationships, and solidifying its position as a leading player in the Hong Kong food import and distribution landscape.
